Minecraft: how to Play with Friends on Different Platforms by Using Cross-play

Minecraft is a fantastic game to play with your friends and you can play with them on any platform, so long as you're playing the identical version.

This means that you are able to play with players who have the Java Edition of Minecraft. Similar to the Bedrock Edition. If you have multiple versions, you'll need purchase the other version in order to play together.

All the platforms that run Minecraft Bedrock Edition can play together. This includes the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC and mobile devices. You'll need a Microsoft account in order to do this. Your Xbox account If you have one, will work fine. Otherwise you can make one for free here.

If you have a Microsoft Account, you'll be required to confirm that you have added the friend you want to play with to the account. Often , this will require sending a friend invite to their Xbox Gamertag.

After that's done now, here's how to be a part of the same team.

Playing with a friend

You can join your friend's hosted session directly by clicking on the Friends tab. You can join your friend's session so long as you are friends with Microsoft. Scroll over to the Friends tab, and look under "Joinable Cross Platform Friends".

These sessions can only hold eight people at one time.
Roof Is On Fire

A pop-up will appear if you are invited to join an event. You can either accept or decline.

Invite your friends to play with you

To invite friends, use the start menu in the game. A sidebar will prompt you to invite friends. When you click "invite" you can invite your friends to join your game.

You must be aware of the permissions your session has (visible in settings). You can change it so people joining your session can only see your world, or let them roam free, building and breaking blocks. You can also grant them administrative privileges. These privileges can be set individualally by clicking on the yellow icon that is next to their names.

Utilizing Realms to play Multiplayer

Realms are servers that can be accessed all day long and do not require a host to play.

You can invite friends to your Realm via the Friends tab or invite via an email in the event that you're playing on a PC. The Minecraft application will launch by clicking the link. Console players will require friends to invite them.

After joining the Realm for the first time, you will be able to access it at any time you like from your Friends tab. For as long as the Realm is active, all Reams that you've joined will be listed under "Joinable Realms". Realms can only have 11 players at a time So if you're not interested in joining, it could be that there already are too many people there.
