"I thought it would be easier to have one device for work and for my personal emails, rather than two," she said.

Article content The former U.S. first lady quickly added in the wake of the recent controversy that it would be "smarter" to keep her personal and government-related emails separate and to use an official state.gov account.

"Looking back, it would have been better if I had used a different email account and had another phone, but at the time, it did not seem to be a problem," she said.

After giving a speech at United Nations about gender equality, Ms. Clinton held the press conferee. The event was a way of relaxing two weeks of tension that was sparked by an article in the New York Times story about her private email address. The article implied that she had violated U.S. government rules regarding preservation of documents.

Content of the article The State Department and National Archives both said that this wasn't the case. The State Department also reported that the news of her private email address was published in March 2013.

Ms. Clinton stated, "I fully adhered to every rule that was imposed upon me,"

Republicans have jumped on this controversy, saying that it is yet another example of Ms. Clinton's secrecy as in her willingness to test the boundaries for acceptable conduct.

They have promised a congressional investigation that will only add to a long line of Republican investigations into the Clintons but none have uncovered any wrongdoing. But they have made her gun-shy , and cautious of her her family's privacy.

Tuesday the 22nd of May, Ms. Clinton calmly responded to most questions, but she just as calmly ignored those about whether her decision to run for president has been affected. She also eluded questions about being criticized due to her gender.

Article content "I will leave that to others to answer," she said.

Ms. Clinton claimed she was following the same pattern of conduct as all previous secretary of state who also employed private email addresses. The State Department asked Ms. Clinton to hand over 55,000 pages of emails in the year 2000.

She said she had around 60,000 emails, sent and received, on her private server. Half of them were for work, and the rest were personal.

If she was asked if she would permit an uninvolved third-party to look through her private emails to see whether she had any information, she stood in her place.

She explained that the server contained personal information from my husband and myself. She believes she has fulfilled all of her responsibilities and that the server will remain confidential.

Ms. Clinton said the server she used belonged to the office of her husband, former president Bill Clinton.

She claimed that the property had numerous security measures. "It was located on a property that was guarded and there were no security breaches."

She added she never sent classified messages to her personal email address.

Ms. Clinton became slightly defensive about suggestions she could not be trusted to divulge potentially embarrassing or politically damaging work-related emails, arguing all civil servants have the power to choose which emails they wish to delete.
